16 Jul - Pro-Palestinian supporters are now calling for boycott against Marvel's upcoming movie "Captain America: Brave New World", after the filmmakers continued on the plan to introduce the character of Ruth Bat-Seraph, also known as Sabra.

Despite the studio deciding to change the identity of the character from the aforementioned Israeli superheroine to a high-ranking US official, many expressed anger and disgust over Marvel refusing to remove the character altogether despite the current climate in Gaza.

It is noted that activists have been vocal about it since 2022, when the character was announced to join the movie.

"They're not even pretending to be covert anymore, just full-fledged Zionist propaganda. We're boycotting," said one X user.

"Wow... so Marvel is actually trying to tank its own project?" another netizen stated. "She's a bad character, the actress is a terrible person. This is just adding genocide to your movie as a good guy."

It is noted that Shira Haas, who plays the character in the upcoming movie, was medically exempted but had voluntary enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which has been highly criticised and slammed by their approach towards the Gaza issue. Haas is also known to be a vocal supporter of Israel and the IDF during the attack on the Palestinian people.

Marvel previously stated that the character of Ruth is freshly imagined for the screen and today's audience, and that the filmmakers are taking a new approach with the character Sabra who was first introduced in the comics over 40 years ago.

It is noted that the name Sabra itself is offensive to Palestinians, as the Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982 saw Israeli-backed Phalange militia killed between 2000 and 3500 Palestinian refugees and Lebanese civilians in two days.
