7 Feb – Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm following her termination from the hit Disney+ series, "The Mandalorian" over some controversial social media posts back in 2021. The actress filed a complaint in California federal court, and claimed that she was fired for voicing right-wing opinions on social media. She is seeking a court order that would force Lucasfilm to recast her. It is noted that the lawsuit is being funded by Elon Musk, who previously promised to foot legal bills for users who believed they have been discriminated against due to their activity on his platform, X.
X's head of business operations Joe Benarroch said in a statement "As a sign of X Corp's commitment to free speech, we're proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano's lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination." Lucasfilm fired Carano, who played the role of Cara Dune in the series after she shared a series of posts that many users deemed to be right-wing opinions, including mocking the government mandate to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
