13 Aug - James Wan is in the running to direct the new take of the Universal classic monster, "Creature from the Black Lagoon".

As reported on THR, the filmmaker, known for horror movies like "Insidious" and "The Conjuring", is said to be in early talks to direct the feature, after he and his team pitched the project earlier this year.

It was said that the studio will hire a scriptwriter to pen the film.

Wan has not been directing any horror-related films since the 2021 movie, "Malignant", having only produced the said genre under his banner, Atomic Monster for the past few years. His last directorial effort was DC's "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (2023).

It is noted that there had been various attempts to bring back the said Creature to the big screen by filmmakers like John Landis, John Carpenter, Ivan Reitman, and Gary Ross. However, none of it came to fruition.

The original 1954 black-and-white film is directed by Jack Arnold and follows a group of scientists who encounter a piscine amphibious humanoid in the waters of the Amazon; the Creature.
