Jimmy Kimmel reveals the reason for declining Oscar 2025 hosting job

15 Aug - Jimmy Kimmel recently revealed the reason why he said no to hosting the upcoming 2025 Academy Awards, after surprising many with his decision to decline the offer.

The late-night talk show host, who had hosted the prestigious event four times in 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2024, shared in a podcast recently that it was too much for him, having to balance the awards ceremony and his own late night show, "The Tonight Show".

"When I'm focused on the Oscar, I'm less focused on the show. And I just decided I didn't want to deal with that this year. It was just too much last year," he said. "You wind up pushing everything off until after the Oscars, and you have to do everything you promised to do after the Oscars."

The comedian said that hosting the awards was an "all-in" effort to him, and that at times, he will reassign his late-night show writers to write for the Oscars and eventually distracted all of them from their actual work for the show.

"It just was too much to do it three years in a row," he added.

It is noted that aside from Kimmel, comedian John Mulaney has also declined the offer to host the 2025 edition of the awards.
