Vijay Sethupathi's "Maharaja" becomes highest-grossing Tamil film in China


"Maharaja" continues global success with Chinese box office triumph
4 Dec - Vijay Sethupathi is showing that he has the ability to compete with the likes of Rajinikanth overseas, as his hit film, "Maharaja" continues to show prowess in China.

The film, which premiered in Chinese cinemas on 29 November, has now grossed RS. 25 crore (approx. USD 2.95 million), becoming the highest grossing Tamil movie in the country.

This means that the film has also surpassed Rajinikanth's "2.0", which made USD 2.5 million when it was released in 2018.

"Maharaja" was also a huge success on Netflix
On the other hand, it was revealed that the film's producers are now eyeing a release in Japan.

The movie has already won fans around the world following its release on Netflix, becoming the most watched Indian movies in 2024, besting its contender, "Laapataa Ladies".
