13 Jun – Pixar Animation Studios' Pete Docter is dismissing the notion of turning the studio's movies into live-action films, following viral fan campaign of having a live-action version of "Ratatouille". The Chief Creative Officer stated in an interview that live-action films bothered him quite a bit. "I like making movies that are original and unique to themselves. To remake it, it's not very interesting to me personally," he added. Stressing that a live-action film about a rat would be tough to make, Docter said that the beauty of the animation world is that so much of what they create only works because of the rules of the animation world.
"So, if you have a human walk into a house that floats, your mind goes, 'Wait a second. Hold on. Houses are super heavy. How are balloons lifting the house?'" he continued. "But if you have a cartoon guy and he stands there in the house, you go, 'Okay, I'll buy it.' The worlds that we've built just don't translate very easily." Meanwhile, Docter, who helmed the original "Inside Out", said that the success of "Inside Out 2" is crucial to the future of the studio, and that they will have to think even more radically about how the studio is run if the movie doesn't do well. "Inside Out 2" will be released in theatres on 14 June.
