29 Apr - Hollywood screenwriter Aaron Sorkin recently confirmed that he will be writing a story that could serve as a sequel to his hit 2010 movie, "The Social Network".

The Oscar-winning scribe shared as much during a podcast, after he was asked about how Facebook and social media have influenced democracy in the years since the said movie about Mark Zuckerberg was released.

Blaming the January 6 incident in which Donald Trump's followers stormed the US Capitol following the presidential victory of Joe Biden, Sorkin said, "Facebook has been, among other things, tuning its algorithm to promote the most divisive material possible. Because that is what will increase engagement."

"That is what will get you to - what they call inside the hallways of Facebook - 'the infinite scroll'... There's supposed to be a constant tension at Facebook between growth and integrity. There isn't. There's just growth. If Mark Zuckerberg woke up tomorrow morning and realized there is nothing you can buy for USD 120 billion that you can't buy for USD 119 billion dollars, 'So how about if I make a little bit less money? I will tune up integrity and tune down growth.' Yes, you can do that by switching a one to a zero," he said.

Following Sorkin's statement, sources confirmed that the screenwriter is indeed working on a screenplay but that the project is still in its early days.

Directed by David Fincher, "The Social Network" is based on the 2009 book, "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich. The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook founder Zuckerberg, Andrew Garfield as Eduardo Saverin, Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker, Armie Hammer as Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, and Max Minghella as Divya Narendra.
