20 Jun - At the recent gala premiere of the movie "Abnormal: Buas" which took place at GSC Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur, actor Aeril Zafrel shared that "Abnormal: Buas" is the first thriller film produced by his own production company, Respected Citizens Productions.

According to Aeril who also wears the producer's hat, the film also has fictional elements with different storylines that take the audiences to an extraordinary realm of reality. "Not only is the plot extraordinary, but the way the presentation and perspectives are highlighted is also something very different and fresh, far from the general formulas that are often used in the local film industry." The film portrays the 'inner beasts' of humans, showing the humans are capable of becoming killing machines.

"What's interesting about this plot, I can promise you, is that it is indeed different even though there are many elements of 18 SG. But we managed to get a classification of 16. There are many sadistic, horrible and cruel scenes," he cautioned.

Aeril added that his team used artistic freedom by creating countries, cities and fictional characters as the setting for the story in the film. "This film is not set in Malaysia, rather it revolves around different countries as it contains elements that may be subjected to censorship. The city depicted is not Kuala Lumpur, but one called Kota Rimoria. For example, even the police characters do not wear the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) uniform," he said.

An interesting fact is that "Abnormal: Buas" has also cast Aeril's wife, actress and entrepreneur, Wawa Zainal and their daughter, Hayla Maghfiratul Adzkiyaa, who is eight years old.

"Actually, we were surprised with Hayla because she has no acting foundation at all. If we were at her age, we would feel shy to meet people, this one wants to act. Her acting is not awkward at all. We did however, send her to acting classes several times to improve herself," said Aeril.

It is noted that "Abnormal: Buas" is the second film in a planned trilogy, with the next movie to serve as its prequel and the third movie being the sequel. The novel of the same title is sold at RM33.90 (West Malaysia) and RM35.90 (Sabah and Sarawak).
