23 Jul - "Twisters" is hitting US cinemas like a tornado, pun intended, as it made USD 80.5 million after three days of release in the country.

The movie, which is helmed by Lee Isaac Chung of "Minari" fame, amassed the amount in the US alone, making it an excellent achievement, though the same cannot be said about its reception outside the US.

The movie has grossed USD 42 million overseas, half of what it made domestically, bringing a total of USD 123.2 million.

The film, which is a standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster film "Twister", stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos as a new group of storm chasers, who "find themselves in the fight of their lives as multiple tornadoes converge over central Oklahoma."

On the other hand, "Inside Out 2" continues to do amazingly at the box office, earning another USD 34.2 million in its sixth week of release, bringing a total of USD1.443 billion.

The movie is set to surpass "Frozen 2" (USD 1.45 billion) as the second highest grossing animated film in history (the first if not counting 2019's "The Lion King"), and soon to overtake "Barbie" (USD 1.446 billion) as the 14th biggest movie of all time.
