16 Jun – Ahmad Idham is betting all his chips on his upcoming new movie, "Impak Maksima 2", after his recent film, "Sahak Gangster" didn't do well in cinemas. The director, who made his filmmaking comeback last year following his departure from FINAS, stated that he is ready to retire as a director if the film doesn't do well in theatres. "Impak Maksima 2 is the most critical work of my life. The film will determine my direction in the industry from now on," said Idham. "If it fails, I'm not sure there will be any more investors willing to give me a chance and it also means that I may no longer be relevant. And if that's true, I have to think about another career after this, so this film will be the deciding factor."
Idham said that he does worry about the fate of the movie, but understands that it is part and parcel of being in the film industry. "That's why I always tell young artistes, from the first day they enter the industry, they need to have a long-term plan," he added. Taking the example of Yusof Haslam, who directed hit films like "Sembilu" and "Maria Mariana" before moving to producing, the filmmaker said that Yusof is lucky to have two sons who inherited his filmmaking talent. "I have to be realistic too. As great as we are, there is an end point to it," he added. Idham came back to the industry last year by helming "Anak Perjanjian Syaitan 2", "Saka Perawan" and "Reeza GTR". Aside from "Impak Maksima", he also directed "Sahak Gangster" this year.
