"Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" tops US box office


"Den of Thieves" sequel opens at #1
14 Jan - Despite the mixed reviews, the Gerard Butler-starrer, "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" managed to top the US box office in its three-day opening.

The film has made USD 15.5 million, overtaking "Mufasa: The Lion King" at the top spot, after the animated feature made USD 13.2 million in its fourth weekend. It also marks the first Lionsgate film to make it to the top after a while.

Meanwhile, animated feature "Mufasa" has now crossed USD 540 million globally, but still lost to another Disney flick, "Moana 2", that is set to cross the USD 1 billion mark soon.

As for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3", the film is now in third place with a global cume of USD 394 million.

"Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" serves as the sequel to its 2018 predecessor and has Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. reprising their role s Big Nick and Donnie Wilson. Inspired by the 2003 Antwerp diamond heist, the movie follows an LASD sheriff who follows a suspected thief to Europe in an attempt to team-up with him for a robbery.
