31 Jul - James Cameron recently revealed that he plans to share more stories about the Avatar universe, but in an animated form.

In a recent exclusive interview with Empire, the filmmaker said that he has already spoken to Disney about the possibility of doing so.

"I said, 'Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that's essentially in the world, but stories that you wouldn't have expected from that world'," he shared. "There might even be an animated feature in there, it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature."

Using the Wachowskis' "The Animatrix", which consisted of nine animated short films detailing the backstory of The Matrix film series, Cameron said that the animated series can deliver backstory on characters and tangential stuff that happened off-camera within the movies.

"Who first landed on Pandora? The first expedition. You could go anywhere you want," he added.

However, Cameron said that the project is still in its idea phase, as he is currently busy with the "Avatar" movies.

"I've got to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, that want to do it," he said.

"Avatar: Fire and Ash" will be released in December
