"Jumbo" surpasses "Mechamato Movie" as SEA's highest grossing animated feature

"Jumbo" breaks SEA box office record
16 Apr - Indonesia's animated feature "Jumbo" has now surpassed Malaysia's "Mechamato Movie" to become the highest-grossing Southeast Asian animation of all time.

The movie, which is produced by Visinema Studios, earned over USD 8 million at the Indonesian box office and racked up more than USD 3.2 million ticket sales since its release on 31 March.

It is noted that the 2022 "Mechamato Movie" made USD 7.68 million.

"Mechamato Movie" was previously the highest grossing Southeast Asian animated film
At the same time, the film has also overtaken Hollywood's "Moana 2" to become Indonesia's second-highest-grossing animated title at the box office.

The film revolves around 10-year-old orphan Don, who attempts to stage a play in a local talent show after feeling underestimated by his peers due to his size.

The film will also be released theatrically in seventeen other countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and countries in Central Asia starting in June 2025.

It is noted that the team of "BoboiBoy", which also produced "Mechamato Movie" has been very supportive of the film, even congratulated the Indonesian movie on its official X account, saying, "Congratulations for this achievement. Let's go watch JUMBO in cinemas now!"

"Jumbo" was released on first day of Eid
