4 Mar - Lau Kek Huat's "From Island to Island" has successfully brought home two awards from the Okinawa Pan-Pacific International Film Festival.

The documentary film became a big winner after winning both the Audience Award and Jury Award at the 2nd edition of Cinema at Sea, dedicated to showcasing cinema from the Pan-Pacific region to East Asian audiences while serving as a gateway to the global film industry.

"From Island to Island" is set against the backdrop of the Japanese invasion during World War II, and explores the experiences of Taiwanese soldiers, doctors, and overseas residents in Southeast Asia during that time.

Using cross-generational memory dialogues, family letters, diaries, and videos, the Sitiawan-born director addresses the complexities of Taiwan's historical memory and diverse identities during that period.

It previously won 2024 Golden Horse Awards for Best Documentary Feature and Best Sound Effects, as well as 2024 Taipei Film Awards' Grand Prize and Best Documentary.

The festival concluded its run on 2 March after 10 days of event.
