"Malam Terlarang" casts box office spell with RM11 million collection

25 Nov - It's a huge success for "Malam Terlarang," which has now become the highest-grossing local horror film of 2025.

The movie continues to attract audiences to cinemas, having successfully collected RM 11 million at the box office as of 24 November.

Said Executive Producer of "Malam Terlarang" and Head of Astro Shaw, Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, "The overwhelming response from audiences towards 'Malam Terlarang' is truly impressive. Last week, the film began screening across cinemas in Singapore starting 20 November."

"We are extremely excited to see the positive reactions from viewers, which proves that local productions are capable of breaking into the regional market. Thank you to all the audiences who have supported the movie," she continued.

Produced by Astro Shaw and based on the original idea by Hazo Mahayuddin, Haris M. Nor, Ariff Zulkarnain, and Nazifdin Nasrudin, the film is not your run-off-the-mill horror. "Malam Terlarang" presents a dark and profound story that focuses on obsession with black magic, and how the hunger for power can destroy families, sanity, and the bounds of humanity.

Starring Zul Ariffin, Sofia Jane, Shasha Abedul, Sabri Yunus, Normah Damanhuri, Hasnul Rahmat, Amir Nafis, Haneesya Hanee, Aila Azizul, and Sadiq M. Jamil, the movie tells the story of Mawar, an 18-year-old girl, grows up in a small town called Kampung Pasir Larung. Her dream of becoming a journalist is put on hold when the sudden death of her sister, Safar, changes everything. Mawar begins experiencing eerie mystical encounters and terrifying paranormal events, driving her to uncover the truth behind Safar's mysterious death.
