Maya Karin defends "Duyung: Legenda Aurora" costumes that left fans unimpressed
15 Dec - Maya Karin has recently decided to defend the design of the costume for her new movie, "Duyung: Legenda Aurora".

The 46-year-old actress, who returns as her character Puteri in the new movie, said that the choice of the new mermaid costume was agreed upon between the production team and the director after taking into account the actors' comfort.

"If you must know, the original costume for the 2008 movie was very heavy and difficult to wear. This time, the production team tries to make it easy for everybody. Not just the actors but the crew as well," she said.

She also added that the design this time has a more cheerful visual concept to bring the atmosphere of the marine world to life.

"In this film, we want to brighten up and enhance the colours of the sea so that it is balanced with the fish, coral and other elements," she said.

The whole issue regarding the mermaid costume sparked recently, after the teaser for the movie was released.

Many netizens expressed frustration over the new mermaid costumes, saying that it looked cheap compared to the one worn in "Duyung".

One netizen even commented on the familiar pattern seen in some freshwater fish, saying, "So, I guess the mermaids are the same breed with the tinfoil barbs."

Another commented, "I was excited for the movie thinking that the advancement of technology would give us even better effects for the mermaids compared to 2008. Instead, we get cheap costumes."

Some others also commented that it was ridiculous to have such a cheap costume seeing that there are people performing as mermaid for work in better costumes than that.
