2 Sep - It looks like fans of "Mortal Kombat" will have to wait a little longer, as Warner Bros. has now delayed the release of its sequel.

THR reported that the studio has set a new date for the movie, and will now be released on 15 May 2026. It will be a part of next year's summer launch.

It is noted that the film was originally supposed to be released next month on the 24th.

Many believed that the decision to postpone its release was to avoid the October slew of releases that include "Tron: Ares", "The Black Phone 2", "Deliver Me From Nowhere", as well as the Dwayne Johnson-starrer, "The Smashing Machine".

"Mortal Kombat II" is helmed by Simon McQuoid, who also helmed the 2021 reboot of the popular video game franchise. It stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, and Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden among others.

Among other films to release in May next year include "The Devil Wears Prada 2".
