8 Dec - Netflix has moved quickly to reassure its subscribers that their streaming experience will remain unchanged for now, following the announcement of its blockbuster acquisition of Warner Bros. and HBO Max.

The streaming giant shared this piece of news in an email to subscribers with the subject line "Welcoming Warner Bros. to Netflix,", where it confirmed news that their entertainment service will be "uniting" with Warner Bros' content, like "Harry Potter", "Friends", "Game of Thrones", and the DC Universe with Netflix originals such as "Stranger Things", "Wednesday", "Squid Game" and "Bridgerton".

"Nothing is changing today. Both streaming services will continue to operate separately," the email stated. "We have more steps to complete before the deal is closed, including regulatory and shareholder approvals. You'll hear from us when we have more to share "

"In the meantime, we hope you'll continue to enjoy watching as much as you want, whenever you want - all on your current membership plan."

For subscribers wondering whether they should cancel their HBO Max subscription, Netflix clarified that both services will remain separate until the transaction closes, which is expected to take 12 to 18 months.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed that Warner Bros. will continue releasing films in theatres, though he hinted that release windows may eventually become "much more consumer friendly" - meaning movies could arrive on streaming sooner than current theatrical windows allow.

The message concluded with Netflix thanking subscribers for their continued support and promising "more great TV shows, movies, games and live programming."
