17 Dec - Nick Reiner, the son of slain director Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer, is set to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The news was confirmed by Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell in a press conference, stating that the LA District Attorney's Office has formally filed charges against the 32-year-old.

"This case is heartbreaking and deeply personal, not only for the Reiner family and their loved ones, but for our entire city. We extend our deepest condolences to all of those who are affected by this tragedy," he added.

Reiner will also be formally arraigned on the charges after he is medically cleared for transport. He has already hired criminal defence attorney Alan Jackson as his legal representative. Jackson is known to have worked on the legal team for Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein and the viral case of Karen Read.

On the other hand, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that they have yet to decide whether to pursue the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole in the criminal murder case.

Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead in their LA home by their daughter Remy on 14 December, with police stating that they suffered "lacerations consistent with a knife". Nick had been the main suspect since day one.

The filmmaker reportedly had an argument with his son at Conan O'Brien's holiday party prior to the tragedy.
