"Pavane for an Infant" is Malaysia's pick for the Oscars
10 Nov - Although "Babah" won the Best Film at the Malaysian Film Festival, it was Chong Keat Aun's "Pavane for an Infant" that was chosen to represent Malaysia at the Oscars.

The news was announced by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) in a statement released on 6 November, saying that the film has been officially selected to be Malaysia's submission in the Best International Film category.

"The selection was carried out by the FINAS Film Selection Committee (JKPF), comprising professionals and experienced figures from the film industry. The evaluation was made based on the guidelines set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)," the statement added.

"Pavane for an Infant", produced by Janji Pictures Production and directed by Chong Keat Aun, has earned multiple international recognitions. Among its notable achievements are the Youth Jury Award at the 39th Fribourg International Film Festival 2025 and Best Screenplay at the 12th Silk Road International Film Festival.

The movie, which stars Fish Liew, Natalie Hsu, and Ben Yuen among others, has also been screened and competed in several prestigious international film festivals, including the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival (2025), 44th Istanbul International Film Festival (2025), 24th New York Asian Film Festival (2025), Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival (2024), and the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival (2024) - where it had its World Premiere in the Asian Future Competition section.
