"The Stand" is Stephen King's 1,152-page post-apocalyptic masterpiece
26 Jun - Known for movies like "The Bourne Identity" and "Edge of Tomorrow", director Doug Liman is set to try his hands on adapting the behemoth that is Stephen King's "The Stand".

The filmmaker is teaming up with Paramount Pictures to bring the book to life, though they have yet to hire a scribe to squeeze in the story of the 1,152-page novel into one movie.

The post-apocalyptic dark fantasy, written by Stephen King in 1978, tells the story about the world after a deadly pandemic, which killed a majority of the world population.

"The Stand" is Stephen King's thickest novel with the most characters
Told from the perspectives of many characters including a veteran named Stu and a pregnant college student called Frannie, the book marks the first appearance of Randall Flagg, King's recurring antagonist.

"The Stand" has been adapted twice as a mini-series in 1994 and in 2020, and was even turned into a comic by Marvel Comics.

The novel is the latest in Stephen King's arsenal that has been adapted for the past few years. His short story "The Monkey" and "The Life of Chuck", his novels "The Long Walk and "The Running Man", as well as the multiple-adapted "Carrie" have either already been released or currently in the works this year.
