Venice Film Festival confirms July cyberattack

Red carpet becomes red alert by major data breach
Red carpet becomes red alert by major data breach
8 Aug - The Venice Film Festival recently confirmed that it has become a victim of cyberattack back in early July.

Festival organisers recently sent a notification to those affected, stating that the attack has compromised the personal data of accredited participants for this year's event, including journalists.

It stated that unknown individuals have "accessed and copied documents stored on the Venice festival servers", exposing data such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, among others.

However, the organisers said that their IT team have secured the system, and that authorities have already been informed.

It is noted that this isn't the first time that a film festival has been cyberattacked. In 2022, the Cannes Film Festival revealed that their online ticketing system was overloaded by bots trying to flood the system.
