2 Oct - Kuala Lumpur is set to host two film festivals simultaneously, as the 63rd Asia Pacific Film Festival (APFF63) and the 4th China-Malaysia Film Culture Festival (CMFCF) will take place concurrently from March 26 to 28 next year.

This marks the first time the two festivals are being held as a joint event, creating broader opportunities for industry players to forge collaborations and strengthen cultural exchange through film.

The event is organised by the Yu On International Foundation in collaboration with LOMO Pictures and the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival.

APFF63 Advisor and CMFCF Chairman Aron Koh stated that this beyond merely hosting two festivals on the same dates, but combines their respective strengths to benefit audiences and the filmmaking community.

He added that the event aims to bring the public closer to film and film culture through experiences that extend beyond standard cinema screenings.

Also supporting the event is Panchacharam P. Nalliah, Secretary-General of the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA), who welcomed the continuation of the APFF in Malaysia for the third consecutive year.

At the same event, former Chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas), Datuk Kamil Othman, was announced as a jury member for APFF63.

The organisers have also confirmed that local action director and actor Ayez Shaukat will receive the FPA Rising Icon Award (Male), an accolade recognising rising talent within the regional film industry. Since its inception in 1954, the APFF has served as a platform to showcase Asia-Pacific films, while the CMFCF focuses on strengthening cultural and cinematic ties between China and Malaysia.

Coinciding with the nation's 70th independence anniversary in 2027, the organizers hope that these twin events will reinforce Kuala Lumpur's position as a hub for regional film industry professionals and cultural exchange.
