Karthi confirms the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2022 spy thriller

26 Jun - The upcoming sequel to "Sardar" will be released in September.

The news was shared by lead actor Karthi, who posted a teaser photo of the movie on social media, which features his titular character holding a gun while standing in front of a giant blaze.

"#Sardar2 ARRIVES... Worldwide in theatres on September 10!" the caption read.

The film will be competing with Vijay Deverakonda's "Ranabaali," which will be released on 11 September.

Directed by PS Mithran, "Sardar 2" sees Karthi and Rajisha Vijayan reprising their roles from the first film, while SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath join the cast in key roles.

The first film, released in 2022, tells the story of a disgraced spy, who returns from a long exile to stop the launch of a suspicious water company which plans to spread toxic water across the country.
