14 Jul - It looks like people have not missed "Moana" yet, as it was revealed that the live-action adaptation of the hit Disney animated feature has failed to make a splash at the box office.

The movie earned only USD 43 million in its first three days in the US, which is lower than the projection of USD 60 to 65 million made by Disney.

Internationally, the movie also made only USD 52 million, bringing its global cume of USD 95 million.

The slow start might have something to do with its timing, as the original "Moana" was only a decade old, with its animated sequel releasing only two years ago. Many believed that the film isn't nostalgic enough to bring people back to the cinemas.

This may cause trouble in the long run for the movie, seeing that it was made with a hefty USD 250 million budget, sans marketing.

"Moana," which stars Catherine Laga'aia as Moana and has Dwayne Johnson reprising his voice role as the demigod Maui, is directed by Thomas Kail.
