30 Sep - Malaysia has selected "The Fox King (Semusim Lara)" as its official entry for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

The news was announced by FINAS on 29 September, stating, "The selection was made by the FINAS Film Selection Committee, taking into consideration the eligibility requirements set by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)."

Written and directed by Woo Ming Jin, "The Fox King" follows twin brothers, Ali and Amir, who grow up without their mother. The arrival of Lara, a new English teacher, brings changes to their lives and their relationship with each other.

The film, which is a co-production between Malaysia and Indonesia, stars Idan Aedan, Hadi Putra and Dian Sastrowardoyo in the lead roles.

"The Fox King" previously held its world premiere in the Centrepiece programme at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on 9 September 2025. The film subsequently screened at several international film festivals, including the Busan International Film Festival, Jakarta Film Week, Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival, Beijing International Film Festival, the Far East Film Festival in Udine, and the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Greenlight Pictures also shared the good news on social media, writing, "A big thank you to the selection committee! The film is still showing in select Malaysian cinemas for a limited run. We might be organising a few special screenings very soon-stay tuned!"
