14 Sep - Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has now set the record for being the highest-grossing movie in Universal Pictures' history.

The news was announced by NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley in a statement on 12 September, saying, "What Chris [Nolan] and Emma [Thomas] have created will go down as one of the most ambitious and brilliantly executed films in cinematic history. A generational event that galvanises moviegoing itself."

The movie has now surpassed USD 1.677 billion globally, besting the previous record-holder, "Jurassic World" (2015), which made USD 1.671 billion at the box office worldwide.

The movie, an adaptation of Homer's epic, has already surpassed Marvel's "Deadpool & Wolverine" to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
