Watch this if you liked: “Vaaranam Aayiram”, “Unnale Unnale”

After the successful "Vaaranam Aayiram", director Gautham Menon returns with another slow romance in "Vinnaithandi Varuvaya" (English: "Will you cross the skies for me"), chronicling a man's journey to find a woman he loved.

Karthik (Simlambarasan) is a mechanical engineering fresh graduate who aspires to become a filmmaker. He falls in love at first sight for his landlord's daughter Jessy (Trisha), a Malayalee Christian. Karthik follows Jessy for days before revealing his love for her. But Jessy just ignore it and goes to her hometown. With the help of his cameraman friend Ganesh (Ganesh), our hero travels to Jessy's hometown in Kerala and convinces her to love him. Jessy realises that she too loves Karthik, but her family and religion stand in the way so she decides to bury her feelings for Karthik. What happens to our lovers form the rest of the story

.Silambarasan's role is very different from his earlier ones. His dialogue delivery, body language and dance movements are all in executed with the right timing. A key scene where he professes his love for Trisha's character is reasonably touching. Trisha looks perfect for her role with her costumes and body language. She looks a little more mature than Silambarasan but still both of them share good onscreen chemistry. Ganesh as Silambarasan's sidekick provides good comedy with a straight face and this supporting role is worth mentioning. The camera work and cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa are breathtaking, especially at locations like Malta, New York, Goa and Kerala. A.R. Rahman's extraordinary music is another crowd puller to the film especially the title song and another track titled 'Hosanna'.

On the flip side, the film takes too much of its own sweet time to narrate a simple love story and this tests the patience of audiences, especially scenes of the waiting game where nothing much happens except for the lovers meeting each other most of the time.

Director Gautham Menon cements his filmmaking prowess in the romantic genre and gives a clean story without any variation. "Vinnaithandi Varuvaya" is all about falling in love, being confused and the rollercoaster feelings connected with it.
