Turbo

From the makers of "Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda" comes "Turbo", a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.

Watch this if you liked: "Cars" and "A Bug’s Life"

If you go into the movie theatre, not knowing what to expect you would probably think something like, "Why am I paying money to see a movie about a snail who thinks he's a race car?" The best part is, this is exactly what you will pay money to see, and you might end up loving it.

This highly unbelievable concept of a snail that drowned in Nitro, which makes him have super race car powers might not appeal to a few people. The talking snail concept might not be everyone's cup of tea either, but there will be a lot of kids and even adults out there who will line up to watch anything cute and animated.

For those who do need some more convincing, here it is: The film has a lot of heart and the story itself was easy-going and fun, and exactly what you need to watch when you need to unwind. Though the plot is outrageous, ridiculous and just plain silly, you'll end up rooting for them and leave the theatre with more joy than you had when you came in.

You'll even be surprised with how many of your favourite actors and comedians actually starred as your favourite characters. Samuel L. Jackson's voice is so iconic he is instantly recognised as Whiplash the snail and Snoop 'insert animal here' also lends his voice for another snail, Smoove Move.

Bill Hader, who recently left "Saturday Night Live" for good gives his voice for the race car driver, Guy Gagne. "Community" actor Ken Jeong plays an old Asian woman pretty well, and guess who voices Turbo himself? Ryan Reynolds.

Knowing that there are a lot of race car fans out there, this will surely please you as well. The movie also shows you a deep appreciation of the cars used for racing. Fans will definitely be gleeful when they hear the terminology thrown in here and there, and you will especially be on the edge of your seat when Turbo starts racing. You'll even forget for a while that a snail is actually racing massive race cars.

While the movie did have enough soul for a few people to tear up a little at the heartfelt moments, the film did not have enough depth like a Disney Pixar film to qualify for more than 3.5 stars. Like Turbo the snail, the movie was too fast paced, and you'll be surprised at how fast they got to point B.

On the other hand, kids and child-hearted adults alike will probably not even care about the many questions the others might have when watching the film, and they will concentrate on just enjoying the film instead for what it is.

The film is meant to be a fun film to watch with your family that wouldn't cause too much stress, and whoever you are, you will be lightened by a few laughable moments in the film. Some jokes admittedly didn't work and though some parts were meant to be funny it is not be enough for audiences to waste energy laughing.

To summarise, watch it to be entertained and if you want just great light-hearted animated fun. It will make you laugh, it will make some cry. It definitely doesn't top other animated films this year like "Monsters University" but so what? At least it isn't as repulsive as the "Ice Age" films. Those films should only be made once.
