Napping Princess

In the town of Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture, Kokone Morikawa, an average high school student, lives with her unsociable mechanic father near the vicinity of the Seto Ohashi bridge. Even though she should be studying diligently for her university entrance exam, Kokone is constantly falling asleep, a trait she proudly considers her own special talent. Due to some strange reason, Kokone recently starts to have the same dream over and over again, and it usually involves warring machines. Three days prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Kokone`s father is suddenly arrested and brought to Tokyo. Despite her father`s brusque and unfriendly personality, Kokone doesn`t think that her father would commit any crime. So, together with her long-time friend and University student, Morio, she sets off for Tokyo to unravel the mystery around her father`s sudden arrest. Along the journey, she soon realises that her recurring dream may be the key to the mystery.
Di pekan Kurashiki di Okayama, Kokone Morikawa adalah seorang pelajar sekolah tinggi biasa dan tinggal bersama bapanya, seorang mekanik anti-sosial, berdekatan jambatan Seto Ohashi. Walaupun dia sedang belajar untuk menduduki peperiksaan masuk ke universiti, Kokone sering tertidur. Kokone baru-baru ini mula mendapat mimpi sama berulang kali dan ia selalu berkaitan dengan mesin amaran. Tiga hari sebelum sukan Tokyo Olimpik 2020 berlangsung, bapanya telah ditangkap atas sebab tidak diketahui. Walaupun bapanya bukan seorang yang peramah, tetapi dia merasakan bapanya tidak akan melakukan jenayah. Oleh itu, dia dan rakan lamanya, Morio, telah pergi ke Tokyo untuk merungkai misteri penahanan bapanya. Ketika perjalanan dia mula menyedari mimpinya mungkin kunci kepada misteri itu.

The Good, the Bad and the Princess of Dreams:

• Coming from the director of action thriller "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex", and action horror "Blood: The Last Vampire", it is to be expected that director Kenji Kamiyama's latest product wouldn't be just a simple fantasy drama, though compared to his previous works, "Napping Princess" is a step down from his usual aggressive genres.

• Nevertheless, "Napping Princess" is more than just a colourful fantastical anime movie about a girl who likes to nap. Surprisingly, the movie has a deeper underlying meaning in regards to Japan's current society.

• The movie is a light fantasy that blurs the lines between dreams and reality, and it is also a societal piece seen through the themes of stagnation and development.

• The movie is fun to watch but at some points it's a bit hard to follow due to the transitions and mixtures between the fantasy and reality elements, making the story more and more complicated as it goes on.

• Nonetheless, the film is undoubtedly a fun action adventure that truly resonates with the audience.
