Hinako, 19 and free spirited, moves to the seaside, where she enjoys spending her time surfing. She then meets a 21-year-old firefighter named Minato and they begin spending time together as he learns how to surf. The romantic relationship is cut short, however, when Minato drowns while rescuing someone at sea. Hinako is devastated but she then discovers that Minato will appear in the sea every time she sings their special song, "Brand New Story".

Hinako Mukaimizu, yang berusia 19 tahun, berpindah ke sebuah bandar di tepi laut, di mana dia meluangkan masa dengan meluncur air. Dia kemudiannya mengenali seorang anggota bomba berusia 21 tahun bernama Minato dan mereka mula meluangkan masa bersama-sama memandangkan Minato turut belajar untuk meluncur air. Hubungan romantik mereka hanya bertahan seketika sahaja, kerana Minato mati lemas ketika menyelamatkan seseorang di laut. Hinako berasa kecewa tapi dia kemudiannya mendapati Minato akan muncul di laut setiap kali dia menyanyi lagu istimewa mereka, "Brand New Story".
