11-year-old Ben and his family relocate to a nearby city when a big company takes over their home village for coal mining. In the city, he meets another new kid, a 12-year-old Syrian refugee named Tariq, who has also lost his former home as he had to flee the war in his country. Initially, they treat each other as rivals, both at school and at the football club. But when they discover that they a lot of things in common, they become friends. Ben is also willing to help when Tariq decides to look for his brother.

Ben yang berusia 11 tahun dan keluarganya berpindah ke sebuah bandar yang berdekatan selepas sebuah syarikat besar mengambil alih kampung halaman mereka untuk menjalankan projek perlombongan arang batu. Di bandar itu, dia bertemu seorang lagi budak baru, iaitu Tariq, pelarian Syria berusia 12 tahun yang juga kehilangan kampung halamannya akibat peperangan di negaranya. Pada mulanya mereka bermusuh, di sekolah dan juga dalam kelab bola sepak. Namun apabila mereka mendapati mereka mempunyai banyak persamaan, mereka mula berkawan. Ben juga bersetuju untuk membantu Tariq untuk mencari abangnya.
