Watch this if you liked: "Skrip 7707"

Interestingly, the storyline of this horror comedy bears a resemblance to Professor Madya A.Razak Mohaideen's horror "Skrip 7707" - both containing numerous ghost stories in a film. "Momok The Movie" starts off with Adlin (Faizal Ramli) who returns to his hometown to spend some time with his best friend, Kadir (Abon) at Warung Pak Ajis (Datuk Aziz Sattar). While they were there, their conversation slowly shifts to the topic of the horror stories they've been hearing recently.

As many as six ghost stories are combined in this film, which can be identified as 'Pontianak', 'Pocong', 'Orang Bunian', 'Badi Mayat', 'Mayat Hidup Dilangkah Kucing Hitam' and 'Sampuk'. Unfortunately, filmmaker M. Jamil fails to present it well, despite an interesting concept. It soon came across as a sort of director's own self-amusement type film, according to this reviewer. The comedic elements also didn't quite capture the essence of humour, seemingly coming across as trying too hard. However, the funny scene was saved by Nabil, famously known in the reality TV series "Raja Lawak" as he gave a very natural and spontaneous performance. His ability to crack jokes is effortless and a big credit should do to him.

In terms of the cast's performances, Faizal Ramli looked very stiff and not at ease in front of the camera, despite being the main character. However, a few more actors also had the same problem such as Hanis Zalikha and Mama Rina, as they only seemed to say out their lines minus the emotion. On the other hand, Abon played out his role much better this time after being in the movie industry for many years now.

The make-up on the ghosts could've been better and the background songs failed to arouse any thrill or excitement. Regardless of that, for those who enjoy horror comedies, you can catch it with your family and friends during this Hari Raya festivity!
