Watch this if you liked: “Aku, Kau Dan Dia” and “Cinta Kura-Kura”

"Hanya Aku Cinta Kau Seorang" sees the loyal and deep friendship between Murni (Nuremy Ramli) and Mukhlis (Aeril Zafrel). Both of them are depicted to appreciate each other so much and have gone through ups and downs in life together. In order to fulfill her quest in searching her Mr.Right, Mukhlis and Stacy (Mon Ryanti) give a hand to Murni by creating a profile for her on an online dating website called "Meet Soulmate". Soon, due to her dating failures and her misunderstanding of Mukhlis as a homosexual, Murni starts to lose faith in men. On the other hand, hiding his mixed feelings for Murni, Mukhlis does everything he can just to make sure his best friend is on the track to happiness in life and her new relationship with a handsome artist named Iqwal (Fezrul Khan).

This movie is an obvious testament of how hard director Ahmad Rusli Khadri is trying to illustrate the concept of platonic love to the younger audience. But his effort does not blend in much surprise because the overall theme is just too common. Instead of calling it a piece that explains how the current younger generation live and grow in an affectionate relationship without having sexual intimacy, you would rather call it a 'decent' teen flick without alcohol, illegal substances and sex scenes.

There is nothing much to nitpick about Aeril Zafrel's performance as a male teenager in this film, as we are used to his usual portrayal of the youthful and rebellious characters on the television screen and his past movies. As usual, he handles it well. He does nothing wrong while playing Mukhlis, but ironically that is partly the reason why his character is lacking of the 'wow' factor.

Another less-satisfying part of the film is the plot that shows the lackluster repercussions of having an unconditional platonic love among individuals. Besides, it is funny to see Fezrul Khan appearing in the movie more often than Aeril Zafrel, as the latter is the male lead of the bittersweet tale.

As an end note, watch "Hanya Aku Cinta Kau Seorang" if you are interested to see how platonic love works between two very different individuals.
