Vanidah stage fright

Vanidah Imran at the GSC Tropicana City premiere of "Setem" recently

6 Aug – The awards night for the 22nd edition of the Malaysian Film Festival is just around the corner and while everybody is counting down to the gala on Saturday, 8 August 2009, first-time host Vanidah Imran has revealed that she is having stage frights.

Actress Vanidah (fondly known as Vee) told Cinema Online via phone interview recently that she can't help but feel nervous and worried about her upcoming performance. The Best Actress at the 20th Malaysian Film Festival in 2007 for "The Red Kebaya" said: "The offer came to me from the organisers out of a sudden and since this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I just had to take it on."

Co-host Fahrin Ahmad
She added: "When they (the organisers) approached me, I was a bit reluctant because I doubt my own capabilities to host such a big event. But I felt relieved when they mentioned Afdlin Shauki's name as my co-host since he's an experienced host with the AIM awards night under his belt. Plus we're close friends. Unfortunately, Afdlin called it off just a few days ago as he is in the running for nine categories in the festival! Thankfully they've found actor Fahrin Ahmad to replace him. But I never had any experience working with him before. Maybe we've done a few TV dramas together but definitely no hosting business. It's a bit worrying but I hope we can find the chemistry to perform our best on the night".

Now busy with preparations in Sabah, the Vanidah-Fahrin pairing will follow predecessors Linda Onn and Bob Lokman who hosted last year's do together.

It's understood that Vanidah is currently doing some research on the festival's history and its previous winners to equip her with as much knowledge as possible for the task.

She's also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Kabir Bhatia's "Setem" but says she's very focused on her hosting job and having a good night out.
