8 Nov – DreamWorks Animation's "Megamind" made its mega debut at No.1 in Malaysia, pushing "Adele: Ride Of The Mummy" to second place for the Deepavali weekend just gone (4 -7 Nov). Featuring the voices of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Brad Pitt, "Megamind" also scored top results in the U.S. with an estimated US$47.7 million, pulling ahead of other two top contenders, "Due Date" (US$33.5 million) and "For Coloured Girls" (US$20.1 million), according to Box Office Mojo. Other lesser releases that debuted in Malaysia over the weekend include "Valla Kottai", "Golmaal 3", "Mynaa", "Action Replayy", "Va Quarter Cutting", "Uthama Puthiran", "Death Place" and "Estet". However, the box office response for Tamil and Hindi films have slowed down since the release of Rajnikanth's sci-fi action "Endhiran", which topped the box office for two weeks straight since its debut on 1 October. Last year, Surya Sivakumar's action film "Aathavan" was a hit among Malaysians during the Deepavali holidays garnering very good response on its first day, while growing stronger in its second day with about 15,000 to 20,000 ticket sales per cinema location.
