Fassbender takes "The Mountain Between Us"

Michael Fassbender has signed on for a role in "The Mountain Between Us".

18 Mar – It can be argued that no one's career is rising as quickly as German star Michael Fassbender, following his stints as Magneto in Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class", Cary Joji Fukunaga's "Jane Eyre", David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method" and Steve McQueen's "Shame". Now, Fassbender is said to be in negotiations with Gerardo Naranjo for a new drama film, "The Mountain Between Us", revealed Movie Web.

The film is adapted from American author Charles Martin's novel about two survivors of a plane crash who fall in love with one another while depending on each other to survive in the harsh mountains of Colorado.

The 35-year-old star is offered the role of Ben Trace, a doctor with an expertise in climbing, who has to use his skills to aid injured writer, Ashley, safely down the mountain. However, the role of Ashley has yet to be cast.

Alongside Naranjo, 20th Century Fox are behind the film, while J. Mills Goodloe ("Maverick", "Assassins") will be providing the screenplay. Naranjo's credits include being a film critic, and the directorial effort for the Mexican arthouse-thriller, "Miss Bala". No production schedule for "The Mountain Between Us" has yet been released.

Fassbender will next appear in Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" which sees release this 7 June in cinemas in Malaysia and Singapore.
