LFS Prangin Mall is open

The newly operational LFS Prangin Mall opened to the public on 14 January 2012.

13 Jan – Lotus Five Star (LFS) cinemas have recently revealed their latest edition to be non-other than a 8 screen Cineplex located at Prangin Mall, Penang, which will hold free movie screenings this 14 to 18 January 2012 prior to its official launch on 19 January.

The opening comes after the closing of the Cathay Cineplexes' branch which had ceased operations since 13 November 2011.

It is believed the closing of Cathay which first commence operations on 27 April 2001, is due to TGV First Avenue's opening early last year which also houses 8 halls making it Cathay's main competition, as both Prangin Mall and First Avenue are back-to-back shopping malls.

The proximity of these 2 Cineplexes are the closest of any other 2 Cineplexes in the nation. The next closest 2 Cineplexes used to be in 1 Utama Shopping Mall, Damansara Utama, where TGV and GSC were only 50 metres apart within the same mall, and in Melaka, where GSC Dataran Pahlawan and LFS Mahkota Parade are in adjacent buildings.

Currently, LFS has 3 Cineplexes in Penang which are, LFS Bukit Jambul in Bayan Lepas, LFS Butterworth in Seberang Prai and of course, LFS Prangin Mall.

To mark the opening, LFS Prangin Mall will be screening free movies for the public from 14 to 18 January 2012, that include titles such as "Magic To Win", "Ra-One", "Alamak Toyol", "Real Steel", "Immortals", "7aam Arivu", "In Time", "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1", "All's Well End's Well 2011" and "Ombak Rindu". To redeem the tickets, moviegoers would be required to present the newspaper cutting of the LFS showtimes listings seen in the Star Newspaper for one free ticket.
