Cranston to star in biopic

Bryan Cranston will be starring in "Trumbo".

21 Sep – While popular television show "Breaking Bad" is almost coming to an end in its fifth season, the show's star Bryan Cranston is planning to star in a whole lot of film projects.

But rather than going for a "bad guy" role, Cranston has chosen to star as a blacklisted Hollywood writer in a biopic of Dalton Trumbo.

The film will be based on the real-life experiences of Trumbo, who was locked up in 1950 for refusing to answer questions before the notorious House Un-American Activities Committee, led by Senator Joseph McCarthy. The panel was obsessed with rooting out suspected communists in Hollywood and for his refusal, Trumbo was blacklisted and refused work.

Jay Roach, who has directors the "Austin Powers" films and "Meet the Parents", is tackling the drama, working from a script written by John McNamara.

Cranston is currently starring as another true-life figure, President Lyndon B. Johnson in a stage production called "All The Way". But he'll be back on our screens in "Godzilla", which arrives in cinemas next year. He is also filming a voice role in "Kung Fu Panda 3" and will be starring in a thriller called "Cold Comes The Night".
