Early "Star Trek" premieres

Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine as Spock and Kirk in "Star Trek Into Darkness".

10 May – "Star Trek Into Darkness" may be set for release on 16 May 2013, but some fans were given the opportunity to watch it as early as this week.

Just yesterday, a gala premiere for J. J. Abrams's sequel to 2009's "Star Trek" was held at TGV 1 Utama, with another gala premiere to be held again tonight. There were some Trekkies who took the opportunity to dress up as their favourite "Star Trek " characters.

Along with the gala premiere, Burger King launched two new burgers as part of their Blockbuster Deals held in anticipation of the film. The burgers are named Galactic Beef and Galactic Chicken respectively. Making a debut along with the burgers are Frozen Fanta beverages in two flavours, Fanta Orange and Fanta Grape, as well as the Meteor Crunch sundae which is vanilla soft serve ice cream with caramel and Cookie Crisps

According to Keith Loh, Burger King Malaysia's Director of Marketing, when asked what drives them to connect with movies, "We hope to make Burger King more relevant for our customers. Seeing that we cater mostly to urban-centric locations where there are a lot of moviegoers, it only seems appropriate for us to have movie tie-ups.

He added, "With "Star Trek Into Darkness", we hope to connect on an emotive level with Trekkies from older and newer generations and movie buffs in general.

Burger King's interest in movie tie-ups marks a return to the movie scene and will continue to extend, but their upcoming movie tie-ups will only be revealed at the end of the year. As the fast food franchise had previously held movie tie-ups with "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation", they may continue with their run with "The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug".

"Star Trek Into Darkness" sees the crew facing the enigmatic and powerful John Harrison, who has declared war against the Federation by detonating the fleet and killing someone important to Captain James T. Kirk. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads the manhunt to a war-zone world to capture the one-man weapon of mass destruction.
