Kota Kinabalu film fest returns on May 2015

4 Feb – The Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) is back again this year. The festival is set to take place at Sabah, East Malaysia this 31 May to 11 June 2015.

According to Culture360, the film festival started back in 2009 with the purpose of building up, nurturing and presenting emerging filmmakers of the ASEAN region.

This year, there would be different competitions during the KKIFF which is the Rolling10 Filmmakers' Competition and the Sabah Pitching Training and Awards.

To be eligible for the participation of Rolling10 Filmmakers' Competition, the length of the film projects for submission must be up to 10 minutes under the category of documentary, narrative or indigenous language.

The Sabah Pitching Training and Awards competition will see ten best documentary film projects that are chosen by the KKIFF committee.

However, prizes worth RM20,000 will only be awarded to three categories which are the 'Best Pitch For Feature-Length Documentary Film', 'Best Pitch For Short Documentary Film' and 'Best Pitch for Sabahan Project'.

Additionally, the Sabah Film Academy will be accepting applications from Malaysians aged 18 and above who have prior experience in directing, cinematography, editing, production design, sound or producing for at least one short film.

The DOC+ at the festival will be screening selected films, giving opportunity to both feature-length movies, shorts and also movies of other genres from the ASEAN region to be displayed during the duration of the festival.
