12 Aug – Returning for its 11th edition this year is the Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF), and as is the norm with most film festivals held in 2020, the upcoming edition will be held online. A total of 12 Asian films have been selected for the film festival's out-of-competition programme, Cinebalu, which include several Southeast Asian productions such as 4 Malaysian films, 1 Singaporean title ("Repossession"), 1 co-production between Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam ("Mekong 2030"), and 2 Hong Kong movies ("The Hongkongers", "Pose").
Apart from moving the Cinebalu screening online, KKIFF has also postponed its Zoom10 Filmmakers' Competition to next year, in light of the current pandemic. Participants who have submitted their short films to the competition are not given any refund but their submissions will be carried over to 2021, while those who have yet to send in their entry will have to hold off on submitting until then. No dates have been confirmed for next year's edition, but KKIFF 2020 is set to be held from 5 to 13 September.
