13 Nov – The Italian Film Festival 2018 kicked off yesterday with a launch ceremony held at TGV Cinemas 1 Utama, one of the venues for the film festival's screenings this year. Malaysian actress Nabila Huda was in attendance at the launch along with the Ambassador of Italy to Malaysia, H. E. Cristiano Maggipinto. "Buonasera," the actress bid the guests good evening in Italian. The 33-year-old is no stranger to the European country as she said that she was just in Italy and will be heading back there again, also under the Italian embassy, to film a segment on the southern region Puglia. "I should audition for a movie while in Puglia," she joked when the ambassador suggested that Italy and Malaysia should do a movie together.
Meanwhile, H. E. Cristiano Maggipinto, while introducing the opening film for IFF 2018, said that "Welcome to the South" is a movie that resonates with him as he himself is a proud Southerner. The film is about a man from Northern Italy who relocates to the Southern region and is pleasantly surprised that his prejudices against the South are unfounded. The ambassador added that for this second edition of IFF, they are up one movie from last year. Since this year there are a total of five movies screening at selected TGV Cinemas instead of only four like last year.
Aside from "Welcome to the South", the other movies of IFF 2018 are "Stay Away From Me", "Italian Race", "White As Milk, Red As Blood" and "A Golden Boy". All movies are screened for free at TGV Cinemas 1 Utama, TGV Cinemas Sunway Velocity and TGV Cinemas Suria KLCC until this 19 November.
