Liyana Jasmay has many upcoming projects which includes countless films, television work and even an album but her first time working with Disney is what got her the most excited. Cinema Online managed to grab a few minutes of her time to ask her about her project in the Bahasa Malaysia version of "Frozen". Cinema Online's interview with Liyana Jasmay was conducted on 21 October at SDI Studio. Q: What can you tell us about Anna? Anna is an adventurous being and she's very brave. She has a lack of heart in the beginning because she was separated from her sister and she doesn't know why. I think Anna, personally, is very cute and hyper, and she isn't your regular princess. Q: How did you prepare yourself for the role? I watched some of the reel for the film and I got the script. The director also explained to me about the story and her character. I did the job immediately so I didn't have time to prepare for the role. My job was to just basically do what Kristen Bell did for the character and dub it in Bahasa Malaysia. It isn't like a film shoot where you get time to prepare for the role. My first initial thought was that I got to do my own reactions for the film, but it isn't it at all. Q: Could you relate to her easily, or did you need to dig deep to find the source of her character? I don't think I have any similarities between me and her because she's a princess! (laughs) I think we're both happy-go-lucky. Something that I can't really relate is how high pitched Anna can be. Kristen Bell who voices the character can sometimes make her voice go really high and I sometimes find it difficult to do the same! Q: What was it like working with Disney for the first time? I have always wanted to work with Disney! I have never worked for Disney before, even though I'm 25 it's still never too late to be a princess (laughs)! Q: So is it exciting that you have voiced a Disney princess? Absolutely! I grew up with Aladdin, Cinderella and Snow White so it's personal to me. It feels so good to be a part of it and to show my younger fans to love our Bahasa. I want to show them the importance of our language. A lot of kids in KL like to talk in English much more, which is good but we also need to learn our mother tongue!
Q: Who is your personal favourite Disney princess? Ariel! I watched "The Little Mermaid" when I was young and I wanted to be her so bad! I love all her songs and I love how she was so persistent to get her Prince Charming. And she believed in herself so I like that about her a lot. Q: Of the newer Disney films, which one do you like more? I really like "Tangled" a lot! Q: Kristen Bell is the voice of the English version of Anna, do you think you guys have anything in common with each other? Oh my god, I don't think so! (laughs) I love her and all her movies like in "When In Rome". She's so quirky! Q: What can you advice young kids out there who look up to you as a role model? To always follow your dreams, but I stress the importance of having education! A lot of my fans come up to me and tell me that they would love to be me but I always want to tell them that yes they could be an actress and follow what they want to do in life but they need to take school seriously as well. Also, reach for your goals and boyfriends should come later. Q: How's married life? How do you juggle your career and personal life, is it difficult? It's been like a roller coaster ride! My husband is a sweetheart, and even though he lives in Sabah he comes and spends time with me over the weekends especially now since I'm a little unwell. He could come and open up a restaurant in KL but he says that he likes it there. Q: Liyana, thank you so much for talking to us! You're welcome!
