Liyana Jasmay finds local films irrelevant

Liyana Jasmay wishes for more relevant local films.

17 Apr – Malaysian actress Liyana Jasmay believes that local films are falling behind as they are no longer relevant to the audience.

"From what I can see, our films are no longer relevant with the current issue and trend," said the actress to mStar.

Liyana added that even if there were films done based on the current trends, but if they were to be released a couple of years too late, they will no longer catch the interest of youngsters; who undeniably make up a large part of the movie market.

With this in mind, this has brought Liyana around to producing a film that will be relevant to today's youngsters, which resulted in her new movie, "Bella Dan Jamie".

"I wish to produce a lightweight film but with something that's close to the audience's hearts; and I believe that those who have experienced hardship and happiness together can relate to the tale of these two friends," said Liyana, referring to the film's titular Bella and Jamie whose friendship grow closer after finding out their parents are getting married, but becomes strained when Bella finds out Jamie is dating her ex.

This is the first time for the actress to produce a film, under her own company Mermaid Studios. She expressed her hope that it can be shown as soon as possible or it too will no longer be relevant.

"Bella Dan Jamie" stars Juliana Evans, Khir Rahman, Dynaz Mokhtar dan Izzue Islam.
