26 Sep - Hong Kong supernatural actioner "Painted Skin" headlines at the newly opened Star Screen Cinema Taiping Sentral this weekend, while "Black Water" and "Love Guru" are the biggest attractions at TGV Cinemas latest location at Seberang Prai City. Penangites will also have the 1st anniversary of GSC Sunway Carnival in Seberang Jaya next week to look forward to for movie offers and deals. Meanwhile, the anticipated "Mamma Mia" movie finally goes on wide release and should keep fans busy until the musical troupe proper arrives in Kuala Lumpur come December. Louis Koo's "Cellular" remake "Connected" also opens, boosted by a recent visit by the star to Kuala Lumpur together with director Benny Chan and co-star Barbie Hsu. Arty fare for the week is local director Azharr Rudin's meditative piece "Punggok Rindukan Bulan", showing at GSC International Screens for two weeks but the most peculiar release this week must be "Catacombs", a horror movie starring pop singer Pink, about a young woman getting lost in the mazy Parisian underground passages. The R-rated film only made DVD release in the U.S. and should attract its share of slasher fans.
