12 Aug - The Sikh community in Malaysia had plenty to cheer when popular Punjabi caper "Singh Is Kinng" matched the international release of the film (8 Aug) and played at TGV Capsquare and TGV Sunway to full houses all weekend. In conjunction with the movie's release, film distributor Sendi Mutiara co-organised with Sikh Women's Awareness Network Society (SWAN) and held a special screening of the Punjabi caper at TGV Capsquare, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday 10 August 2008. Many Punjabi VIPs graced the event, including TV football pundit Serbegeth Singh, better known as Shebby. Radio presenter Gina of THR Hindi Power fame and Dr Manjit Kaur Ludher from SWAN expressed their pleasure of hosting the do, as it is wholesome fun for the family. The guests were extremely pleased with the show and many said they would watch it again.
According to cinema manager Hardeep Singh, the overwhelming response for the movie had caused TGV Capsquare to open an extra two halls to meet the demand. He said: "I was asked from the cinema management at TGV Sunway if they could refer patrons here because all shows in Sunway were already full by morning." "Singh Is Kinng" is about a guy living in Punjab named Happy (Akshay Kumar), who is sent to Australia to bring back his mobster brother Lucky (Sonu Sood) but things do not go according to plan and Happy is forced to take over Lucky's place as the "Kinng" of the underworld in a rollicking adventure from Egypt to India. Katrina Kaif plays the lead actress.
For Hindi movie fans, Malvin Singh of Sendi Mutiara hinted that next week might see the simultaneous release of two Hindi movies - "Bachna Ae Haseeno" starring Rabhir Kapoor and "God Tussi Great Ho" starring Salman Khan.
