25 Feb – Singaporean director Jack Neo of the "Money No Enough" and "I Not Stupid" fame is currently venturing into a different type of comedy – horror. According to an interview with Cinema Online, the 49-year-old director said, "We have all seen horror films from Korea, Japan and Malaysia, and we can stereotype how their ghosts commonly look like. But how would a Singaporean ghost appear to be? Now, that's something refreshing for the audience to look forward to!" Currently in discussion, no other casts members are confirmed except for actor Henry Thia, touted as the Asian Al Pacino by Neo himself. The character actor appears in almost all of Neo's films. The shooting for his latest horror comedy is to commence mid-August 2009. Meanwhile, Jack Neo and co-director Gilbert Chan together with the extended cast from "Love Matters" made their way to Malaysia on 20 February 2009 to promote their latest rom-com opening tomorrow at cinemas nationwide. A press conference was held at the Boulevard Hotel with Henry Thia, Yeo Yann Yann, Jack Lim, Cheryl Lee, Lai Ming, Alex Leong and May June attending. The film, which opened in Singapore on 22 Feb, topped the charts for two consecutive weeks competing against other Chinese New Year films.
Neo who previously tackled social issues on money in his "Money No Enough" films, wanted to create more emotional awareness through "Love Matters". "I find that there is a lack of love in society and I just wanted to direct a film on the issues revolving around love to remind the audience not to take it for granted, especially when it comes to marriage. While filming, I've realised that men and women have different needs. Women want affection while men are more to sexual desires. It's a good concept for the audience to reflect upon," said Neo. Within the next two to three months of its release, the director said if the movie receives good response, a sequel will be in order.
