26 Sep – Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) recently announced that Sarawak's second GSC cinema to be opened in Bintang Megamall Miri multiplex next year, will go under a new brand name known as "GSC Lite", based on a press statement recently released by GSC.

GSC's first cinema in Sarawak housed at CityONE Mall, Kuching, will be followed by another one in Bintang Megamall Miri due to open in 2012.

"GSC Lite" is reportedly set in "a lighter, modest and accessible manner to cater to the smaller market centres without lacking the effects of big screen and digital sound similar to those offered at GSC cinemas."

Targeted to open in the second quarter of 2012, the proposed 8-screen GSC Lite Bintang Megamall Miri multiplex will have an estimated 1,000 seats and is located in the heart of the Miri Central Business District.

Additionally, GSC Lite Bintang Megamall will be equipped with three digital halls that will be able to feature digital 2D and 3D films, besides the traditional 35mm film format.

Facilities like GSC E-Payment (online ticketing) and SelfPrint options will also be made available in GSC Lite Bintang Megamall. The SelfPrint facility enables customers to print their movie tickets after online purchase and access the halls via scanning the 2D barcodes at the cinema checkpoint.

The GSC mobile app (iPhone and Android) will also offer a "ticketless" option as movie fans can select seats and purchase tickets with either their m2u or PayPal accounts.

GSC's first "Lite" cinema is scheduled to open this November 2011 in Mentakab Star Mall, Pahang. Earlier in July of this year, GSC also revealed their plans for a 10-screen GSC CityONE Mall in Kuching, scheduled to open in 2012.
