25 Mar – Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh's movie "The Lady", was not shown in Malaysia's cinemas last 16 February as planned, nor was it shown during March, which gave rise to various speculations about Malaysia's attempts to avoid controversy following Yeoh's ban from Myanmar. However, Luc Besson's two-hour biopic was released on 1 March in Singapore with multiple screenings per day in most of their major cinemas. The movie also opened a second scren in the International Hua Hin Film Festival where it was the closer as it brought in a packed house. It may be due to the movie's positive critical and commercial reception that the French-English production is now slated to be released in Yeoh's home country come this 3 May. The movie referred to the lady who struggled to bring peace to Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi, which Yeoh played. It chronicled her life from her early life to her efforts to fight for her people as a Burmese opposition politician to the hardships she endured as a result, which also involved her relationship with her husband, Michael Aris (David Thewlis). "The Lady" is still showing in Singapore, with a Malaysia release in 3 May.
